There were various elements that i have learnt while completing this unit. This was the first time that i used a camcorder and any video editing software so in terms of familiarity this was tough. This was also the first time that we had to book out equipment, and because i was over the age of 18 it was easier for me to book it out as apposed to other group members needing to get perental permission.
While filming the advert i found out that there was going to be alot of shot changes in terms of getting the right camera angles and getting everything just right for a 3 - 5 second capture. Knowing that the footage would end up getting editing down even further during post production. Using the camera was simple with the touchscreen, and transfering files to the PC was just as simple. It was the video covnersion that took both time and effort and the first time we converted files over we had no audio so i had to do it all over again.
Once all the footage was converted and onto my hard drive it was time for the editing, which for me was the fun part. Getting to grips with Premier Pro was difficult but after soem practice in college and at home i gradually got the hang of it. The tricky part was making sure i saved the pack shot to a PNG file instead of a JPG otherwise i wouldnt have had the transparity.

Week Sixteen
Our television advert will be for the wonderful brand of Diet Coke, we decided to go with Holly Acres' idea because we felt that there was less cons than the ones that other group members came up with.
Pre-Production Process
In this stage we delegated jobs for each of the members to complete, i was given the tasks of coming up with the following;
At this stage i was also looking at previous Diet Coke adverts to see if there was any trend in the way there advertising was portrayed.
Production Process (1)
We started filming on a Wednesday morning in Bognor Regis, we had all day to get all the filming shots together. With all the props and paperwork that was needed we started with filming the shots in the kitchen, and after 2 hours of filming finished with the shots in the living room. We managed to get all the shots we needed plus extra ones that werent on the storyboard or shooting schedule. We did this because we felt that it would be better to get as much footage as possible to use in the post production editing stage.
Post Production (1)
The following day we converted the footage from MPG format through to .AVI files. Then was the time consuming element of editing all our footage together to create a 30 second advert. It was soon apparent that it was going to be difficult to whittle down the shots to fit into the time frame given. After many hours of trying footage in different places and length and speed of the shots i managed to squeeze all the footage i needed into the 30 seconds.
Production Process (2)
We all met in Shoreham at 10.00am on the follwoing wednesday. We started off shooting the living room scenes then doing the travelling shots to and from the shop culminating in the final shots being done in the shop itself, all the re shooting was finished by midday
Post-Production Process (2)
After some feedback it was clear that we needed to change the concept, direction and message of the advert. Luckily we were in a position to reshoot the shots that we needed to (60% of the advert). We needed to reshoot the following scenes
Now the advert is completed i uploaded the video to YouTube and then shared that with my personal facebook account with a link to filling in an online questionnaire. This is a 8 question survey asking questions like age, sex, what they felt could be improved with the advert, interpretation of the message given across and what age group do they think the advert is aimed at.
Over the next week or two i will collecting the data that i can then compile into a readable graph to see if the campaign would have been a success if it had been screened on tv.
Pre-Production Process
In this stage we delegated jobs for each of the members to complete, i was given the tasks of coming up with the following;
- Company Logo
- Legal and Ethical Considerations
- Client and Audience needs
- Similar and Existing Products
This task was more taxing than first anticipated, because on the Thursday (20/1) i was having a complete mental block and could not get into the research side of things at all. I managed to get the legal aspects of the advert sorted, i then proceeded to get research about various types of insurance that was needed, ASA BCAP guidelines for advertising soft drinks, Copyright material, Music rights and applying for a waiver form. Next was working out the different ethical considerations that were needed to be addressed before the proposal could be pitched to the client.

Week Fifteen
This week got our initial ideas together ready for getting formed into groups, my idea was based around the modern mobile phone. Looking specifically at the iPhone 4.0:-
The Idea
Looking at the current iPhone adverts they are all fairly simple in design and execution, so my advert was going to be based around a guy trying to organise a first date. With time running out he was struggling so turns to some FREE apps that he has on his phone.
He first looks up for a local restaurant looking at the reviews, and even being able to get the number to call them directly from the phone. The next app that he looks at is the Cineworld app, showing him all the film times for the cinema local to him, he can even book the tickets in app. The final app that he looks at is The TrainLine. He can check the last train times so he dont miss his last trip home and make a complete mess of the date.
The phone would then leave the screen, and the Apple logo would come onto the screen along with the slogan
'When all else fails, there is an app for that'
On the Thursday we were placed into our groups, and we brain stormed our ideas and we whittled it down to either the Diet Coke, KitKat or Sure Deodorant. We went with Diet Coke and we started getting all the ideas for the advert together. After 90 minutes of our meeting we still had not completed all the things that were on the agenda.
We have scheduled a meeting for Tuesday 18th January 2010 at 12.45 in the library at Chichester College.

Week Fourteen
This week we returned back to college and started looking at TV adverts and thinking about our own initial ideas, i have decided on using the modern mobile phone specifically the iPhone. I have looked at the current and past adverts and there model is unique in the fact that all you generally see is the iPhone itself and having application demonstrations (with the exception of the advert including facetime).
So my initial idea will be to do the same type of advert, very minimal but have a story to the advert with a guy trying to organise a first date so the restaurant, film and then what train they will get back.

Week Thirteen
This week we started the new module on TV adverts, we started analysing iconic adverts over the past few years, we looked at the Spice Girls in TESCO, Nescafe Gold Blend and Kelloggs Cornflakes. We were looking for structures, characteristics, number os edits, slogans, product advertising and techniques used.
